Fulcrum fanlist

A brief list of the best games released in recent years

FOR PASSIONATE VIDEO game lovers, the Fulcrum has compiled a list of the best and most addictive game releases in recent years—just a little something to feed your procrastination problem.

Borderlands

Best non-sequel

PS3, Xbox, PC

Arguably the best of the very few non-sequel releases in the past year or two, Borderlands is a game with personality. Half RPG, half first-person shooter, it will let you de-stress as you kill pterodactyls, flaming psychos, or weird, inexplicable, little dog-like creatures. The best part of this game is how easy it is to kick ass at it. When paired with its chaotic gameplay and hilariously haphazard storyline, Borderlands makes for an excellent gaming experience.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Best remake

Wii

Trying to get the New Super Mario Bros. Wii before Christmas was like fighting Bowser and realizing that your princess is in another castle. The game was sold out absolutely everywhere—and for good reason. The modern-day version of Super Mario plays like a charm. You can work in a team with your friends, or throw them down cliffs; you can grow to sizes you never dreamed of and even waltz around in a penguin suit. It’s a game that guarantees a fun time, particularly if you’re playing with friends.

Final Fantasy XIII

Most anticipated

PS3, Xbox

Go on an epic quest with your team, perform magic spells, and kick butt with your trusty sword—this is the basic premise behind the entirety of the Final Fantasy series. This new version, which hit stores March 9, includes an upgraded battle system, a new world, and to defend it, a handful of entirely new characters. Old-school Final Fantasy fans will be screaming more than 10-year-old girls at a Hannah Montana concert for this one.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Best Sequel

PS3, Xbox, PC

Yet another game in the Call of Duty epic, Modern Warfare 2 will virtually blow you away. Equipped with impressive new graphics and a fantastic online interface, it’s a game that’s not to be messed with. Although it’s seriously impotent in single player mode, COD definitely makes up for it with high performance in the online gaming scene. It’s fast-paced and beautiful to look at. Seasoned pros will definitely get their fill of the action while newbies can quickly catch up. Modern Warfare 2 was the game to blame for many failed midterms and, with its innovative interface and brilliant graphics, this one may keep you hooked until final exams, too.

Haha so true

Definitely failed at least one midterm already due to FF13
